Most of my working life has taught me one lesson, again and again: talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Closing that gap is rarely about a single startup, a single grant or a single event. It is about the system around them: who gets access to capital, who opens the door to a market, and who believes in a founder before the evidence arrives.
That is why I think in ecosystems. When I founded ICEALEX in 2011, the goal was never to run programmes for their own sake. It was to weave together the people and institutions that make innovation possible: founders and mentors, universities and investors, governments and development partners. A programme ends. A well-designed ecosystem keeps compounding.
What moves me most is the ripple effect. A young woman launches her business and hires from her own community. A founder we once mentored becomes a mentor. A pilot in one city becomes the model for the next. I measure success less by what I build myself and more by what others go on to build because the conditions were right.
Today I carry that work into the rooms where systems are shaped: on the Board of AfriLabs, representing North Africa; as a founding board member of Egypt's Impact Investing Initiative; as Vice Chair of the Entrepreneurship Committee at the Alexandria Business Association; and in the classroom, as a Professor of Practice at ESLSCA and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. I hold each of these as a responsibility rather than a title: to listen first, to connect generously, and to leave every ecosystem a little stronger than I found it.
I am still learning, and much of what I know I owe to the founders, partners and teams I have had the privilege to work alongside.

ICEALEX won the International Girl Award 2026 from Plan International Denmark in Copenhagen, and was named Ecosystem Internationalisation & Cross Border Champion of the Year at ASEB 2026 in Johannesburg.
200 founders, six weeks of investor readiness and up to EGP 1M in prizes, ending at Demo Day in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Through a matching fund model, partners co-invest alongside the awards, so every pound a winner earns can unlock more.
